MDX Dubai Joins Second Edition of the Triple-Campus BritChallenge
Middlesex University Dubai recently took part in the second edition of the Middlesex Triple-Campus Brit Challenge, a 24-hour cyclothon that connected the three campuses of Middlesex University London, Middlesex University Mauritius, and Middlesex University Dubai through sport, teamwork, and friendly competition. This global event saw participants cycling on stationary bikes continuously for 24 hours, with each campus working to accumulate as many kilometres as possible.
A Remarkable Achievement for MDX Dubai
The challenge highlighted the strong sense of community across the global Middlesex network. This year’s event saw impressive distances recorded across all three campuses, with Middlesex University Dubai cycling a remarkable 4,683.95 km. Middlesex University Mauritius recorded 4,511.39 km, while Middlesex University London reached 3,190 km.
At MDX Dubai, a total of 200 students and staff took part in the 24-hour event, cycling in shifts throughout the day and night to contribute to the campus’ outstanding performance. Demonstrating the strong momentum of the challenge, Dubai reached the milestone of 2,026 km in just 11 hours, highlighting the dedication and endurance of participants.
Standout Performances
Several individual performances stood out during the event. Among students, Harsh Nichani recorded the longest distance with 163 km, followed by Romeo Rimui with 150 km and Haneef with 143 km. A memorable moment came when Haneef chose to break his Ramadan fast while continuing to cycle, showing determination and commitment to the challenge.
Other notable student distances included Morgan Kalya (140 km), Richard Daniel (126.6 km), Juac Agor (125 km), Rohan (125 km), Moustafa (120 km), James Landicho (103 km) and Akshara Murugan (100 km).
Among staff participants, Coach Farhan Firoz, Head Coach of Middlesex University’s Athletics Team, recorded the highest distance with 122 km, followed by Seán Bambrick, Manager – Student Recruitment, Global Partnerships and Outreach, who completed an impressive 112 km in a single ride, making him the only rider to surpass the 100 km mark in a single attempt. Dr Paul Read, Associate Professor in Sports Science & Strength and Conditioning, recorded 103.1 km, and Sasa Obradovic, Sports and Fitness Coordinator at the London Sport Institute in Dubai, achieved 102 km.
Additional strong performances came from Coach Slavko Micanovic, Student Activities Manager (85 km), Gabriele Poniskaityte, Assistant Manager Student Activities (81.1 km), Dr Krishnadas Nanath, Associate Professor of Data Science and Artificial Intelligence and Deputy Head, Computer Engineering and Informatics (CEI) (70.1 km), and Mohamed Shahid, Assistant Manager Student Recruitment (45 km).
Team Spirit and Community Engagement
The event also saw strong participation from sports teams across the university. The MDX Dubai Athletics Team recorded the highest team contribution, cycling an impressive 1,600 km during the challenge.
