MDX Business Case Challenge 2025–26 Finale Explores AI in Healthcare

On 12 February, Middlesex University Dubai proudly hosted the finale of the MDX Business Case Challenge 2025–26, an inter-university competition that brought together some of the brightest student minds from across the UAE. The challenge, which commenced with an expert-led workshop in November 2025, centred on the timely and transformative theme of AI in Healthcare, encouraging students to apply strategic, analytical, and innovative thinking to real-world industry challenges aligned with Middlesex University Dubai’s Business programmes and industry-focused learning approach.

Competition Overview and Participation

Led by Muneeza Shoaib Sandeela, Senior Lecturer in Marketing, Head Co-curricular Programmes UG Business School, Campus Programme Coordinator – BA Marketing, alongside the organising team of Neelofer Mashood, Senior Lecturer, Dr. Shawn Mathew, Senior Lecturer in Marketing, Bushra Akbar, Lulu Baddar, Senior Lecturer, Dr. Faisal Nazir Zargar, Senior Lecturer Accounting and Finance and Emiliya Sunny, the competition saw strong participation from 105 student teams representing universities across the UAE. Following a highly competitive preliminary round, nine finalist teams progressed to the final stage.

Finalist universities included University of Birmingham Dubai, De Montfort University, Middlesex University Dubai, Rochester Institute of Technology, Amity University Dubai, SP Jain School of Global Management, University of Greater Manchester (formerly University of Bolton), Curtin University Dubai, and University of Wollongong Dubai.

Event Highlights and Keynote Speakers

The finale was opened by Dr. Tenia Kyrizai, Deputy Director Teaching & Learning, Law and Social Sciences Head of Law and Politics, who welcomed participating universities and industry guests and highlighted the importance of learning beyond the classroom and collaboration with the wider academic and professional community, key priorities at Middlesex University Dubai.

Participants also benefited from insights shared by two distinguished keynote speakers: Mr. Rizwan Tufail, Group Chief Data Officer at Pure Health (Keynote Speaker and Panel Judge), and Dr. Suha Assayed from the National Kaohsiung University of Science and Technology and The British University in Dubai.

Judging Panel and Competition Winners

Final presentations were evaluated by an accomplished judging panel comprising Dr. Suha Assayed (NKUST and BUiD), Dr. Amber Rashid, Director of Preventive Care Medicine at Kings Hospital, Dr. Naval Kishore, Managing Director at Tendercare, Ms. Joana Simao, Clinical Safety Specialist at InterSystems, and Ms. Reda Mashood, Technical Product Analyst at InterSystems.

The competition winners were announced as follows: first place was awarded to Team Meditech from SP Jain School of Global Management, second place to RITTigers from Rochester Institute of Technology, while third place was jointly awarded to Team CLM from the University of Wollongong Dubai and Team MARK III from Amity University Dubai.

Prizes were presented by Mr. Mohammad Meraj, Lecturer in Business, Deputy Director Academic Professional Services & Quality, who congratulated all participants and emphasised how industry-engaged competitions play a vital role in enhancing graduate career readiness and employability.

Significance and Future Outlook

The MDX Business Case Challenge 2025–26 once again reflected Middlesex University Dubai’s commitment to experiential learning, industry engagement, and cross-institutional collaboration, offering students a valuable platform to showcase analytical, problem-solving, and presentation skills in a real-world context.
